Here is another card that I chose simply for the photography. It's a Evgeni Nabokov from the 2003-04 Topps base set. There are plenty of great looking cards like this out there, they're just not ever seen because everyone seems to focus on the "hits" nowadays.
I love this photo. It's a real in your face kind of picture and not your usual on ice action shot and it just makes for an awesome card. I really like how they blurred the background so Nabokov stands out even more from everything else.
One thing that helps this card, and all sharks cards for that matter from this set, is the border color. It's nearly the same as their team color and it helps bring the entire card together, unlike some of the other color combinations in this set.
Other than the photography, this set design is pretty solid. I like the gold foil used for the Topps logo and the player name. I also like how the team logo is fairly small and neatly placed in the bottom left corner, leaving the picture pretty much unobstructed.
This card kicks ass! I like how the people in the background are blurred; it really makes Evgeni pop out at ya.
ReplyDeleteI agree... this card is sweet. Nabby is one of my favorite Sharks of all-time.
ReplyDeleteAwesome card! I just love the angle - looks like the photographer was crouched and Nabby is looking at him.
