Cardboard Creations: 79-80 OPC Part I (Redux)

Well, I decided to go a different direction with my 79-80 OPC custom set. I didn't like working with the powder blue background on all of the cards so I decided to go with team colors for each of the new designs.

Other than the 1984-85 OPC, this has to be the best looking set from the 70's and 80's. What I like most about them is the absence of any manufacturer's logos on the front of the card.

I started this set just like the 84-85 OPC by recreating the card design with inkscape. This allowed me to change the colors, team logos and text very easily, hence the way I switched from the powder blue.

I also stayed with the 3 page, 27 card set up, so there is one card for all but three teams. I do this only because its much easier to work with three full pages.

I tried to come up with a variety of pictures, but it seems like those with the butterfly stance seem to frame the best within the picture window on the card (i.e. Miller, Rask, etc.).

My favorites would have to be Howard because it shows his intensity and Deslauriers because its shows a nice desperation save attempt.

  1. dude... I hate you. Those are awesome!!!! Keep them coming!

  2. Hey thanks man.

This is the last set I have right now, any suggestions for other vintage sets to recreate.

  3. How did you make these? Any chance you could send me the file so I can try to reconstruct it?

    1. Unfortunately I no longer have the files, but I can tell you what I did.

      1) I took a scan of a real card from the set and imported that into Inkscape.
      2) I traced the card design and adjusted the colors as needed.
      3) I imported an image file then cropped it to fit inside the design.
