SCE Super Script Update

Time for my seemingly once a year update on my favorite set of all time: 1999-00 Upper Deck MVP Stanley Cup Edition Super Scripts. There are a handful of these for sale on various sites, but I avoid overpaying for them so I don't get them all that often.

Speaking of cards for sale from this set, the one I am showing off today has been on my eBay watch list for over a year now. The price wasn't too bad at $10, I just never got around to hitting the buy it now button until just recently.

Here is card #144 featuring Shane Doan of the Phoenix Coyotes and their gorgeous original kachina jersey. This one is serial numbered 07/25 and goes nicely with the other Coyotes I've already got for my set including Travis Green, Sean Burke and Keith Tkachuk.

Even though this MVP design isn't the fanciest in the world, every time I add one of these to my set I can't help but stare at it for a moment. I've been a fan of this set for over 20 years now and still get the same level of excitement with every new addition.

This one bring my SC Edition Super Script total to 87/220 or 39.5% of the complete set. It also breaks the current tie I've had between the Golds and Supers for this project. I only need three more to complete the Coyotes team set at this point.

SCE Super Script Update

Time for another update on my favorite set. Its been a little while now since I picked one of these up. I'd have to go back to last year at this point. After all, the set is another year older and getting harder and harder to find. I know I'll probably never actually finish it, but that's part of the fun and it keeps me going even after all these years chasing it.

The latest addition to my Super Script set came from eBay a few weeks ago. Here is card #15 featuring P.J. Axelsson of the Boston Bruins. This one is serial numbered 10/25.

I was a little hesitant about buying this one because the listing showed there was a slight crease in one of the corners. It didn't look all that bad and for just a few dollars I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I don't see these every day so I had to jump on it.

I was pleasantly surprised when I got the card that you can't even tell there is anything wrong with it until you look very closely at the back. In the scan of the front above you would never know there was an issue. Definitely a win in my book.

This one brings me to 86 out of 220 for the Super Script set. I believe it is only the second Bruin I've been able to grab, the other being Joe Thornton. That leaves me needing six more to complete the Bruins team set.

SCE Super Script Update

While 2020 has seen quite a few more additions than normal to my collection as a whole, my main set project has only seen two new pickups thus far. I am always searching eBay for deals on cards from this set and was lucky enough to finally grab another one recently.

Here is card #181 featuring Steve Kariya of the Vancouver Canucks. He is the younger brother of Paul Kariya. This one is serial numbered 09/25.

The best part about this pickup is it came as an absolute steal compared to another version I have been watching on eBay for months. That seller had this same card listed for $199 that last time I checked. I understand listing something high and then taking offers, but that seems crazy to me. I only paid $8 for my copy. Another instance of patience paying off.

This one brings me to 85 out of 220 for my set, or just under 39% of the way there. Kariya joins Cassels, Aucoin, Messier and Naslund for my almost complete Canucks team set. I'm only missing Brad May and Artem Chubarov now.

SCE Super Script Update

After picking up what seemed like a ton of these last year, I am only now getting my second Stanley Cup Edition Super Script of 2020, and we're into October now. I guess with a set as old and limited as this you're going to have some up years and some down years.

If price wasn't a consideration I would've gotten at least half a dozen more this year, but I'm not going to drop over $100 on singles for this set, at least not right now. I've been watching several of them listed for obscene amounts (Peter Bondra for $175, Steve Kariya for $200, Darius Kasparaitis for $180). Those are just a bit too much if you ask me.

Thanks to another more affordable eBay find, I have one more for my set. Here is card #69 featuring Pat Verbeek of the Detroit Red Wings. This one is serial numbered 07/25.

Sometimes I forget that Verbeek even played for the Wings. He was here from 1999-2001 and played in in 135 games putting up 37 goals and 78 points. Now that I think about it I almost remember him more from his time as a broadcaster with Fox Sports.

If I remember correctly this will be my fourth Red Wings Super Script. I'm still missing two of the bigger names in Yzerman and Fedorov. Hopefully I'll be able to track them down someday and complete my Red Wings team set. Now that would be awesome.

SCE Super Script Update

To go along with my last post, I was also able to land another Super Script for my set. These things are still pretty hard to find now, so anytime I can get one its a good day for my collection. Plus, its fun to see some of the names from back then.

This one is card #205 and features Michal Sivek of the Prince Albert Raiders. It is serial numbered 10/25 on the front. Fun fact about this one: the right half of this photo is on the Milan Kraft card from this set. That's something you don't see every day.

One of the fun things about the CHL subset is researching how the player panned out as far as an NHL career. In this case, Sivek was initially drafted by the Washington Capitals 29th overall in 1999. He never actually played a game for the Caps though.

The reason why: Sivek was one of three players sent to Pittsburgh in the Jaromir Jagr trade. He would go on to play 38 games with the Penguins in 2002-03 registering three goals and three assists for six points. That would be it for his NHL career.

He went from there to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL then onto Sparta Praha of the Czech league where he would play through the 2007-08 season. After that he retired from playing to become an agent for Eurohockey Services.

This one brings me to 83 total or just shy of 38% for the entire Super Script set. It also puts me at 11 out of the 23 CHL prospects subset, so at least that part is almost halfway done.

SCE Super Script Update

Along with my recent run of Gold Scripts for my 1999-00 MVP Stanley Cup Edition project, I was again able to land all of the corresponding Super Scripts.

There was also one outlier that came from a different seller than the one from Sweden and it was just a lone Super Script. The funny thing is I actually lost out on an auction from the Swedish seller for this exact same card as one of their earlier Silver/Gold/Super lots.

That one outlier would be this Stacy Roest, which is card #70 in the set and is serial numbered 04/25. To this day I'm not sure why he was chosen to represent the Red Wings in this set over names like Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Chelios, Igor Larionov, etc.

Back to the ones from Sweden now starting with Sergei Brylin of the New Jersey Devils. This one is card #110 in the set and is serial numbered 10/25. While he isn't the biggest name of the Devils in this set, I definitely remember him from their Cup run back in 2000.

Continuing with that 2000 Stanley Cup winner, this Scott Gomez is card #107 in the set and is serial numbered 24/25. If only that had been one number less, it would've made for one of those neat jersey numbered cards. Not sure I have many in my set so far.

Up next is this Scott Young, which is card #166 in the set and is serial numbered 16/25. Is it just me or does it seem like the photo on this card is just a bit to the left? I get it though if they were trying to avoid the MVP logo covering up the player.

Then there was this Jeff Halpern, which is card #191 in the set and serial numbered 12/25. According to the checklist, this is actually a RC for Halpern. I vaguely remember him from back in the day. Gotta love those old Caps jerseys too.

This one featuring current Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green is card #141 and is serial numbered 01/25. Its always nice to have the first card of a print run like this. I'd have to look through my set to see how many I actually have.

First we had the beginning, now we have the end of print run. This one featuring Jonas Hoglund of the Toronto Maple Leafs is card #175 in the set and is serial numbered 25/25. I don't think I have many numbered 25 in my set so this is kind neat as well.

The first of four CHL Super Scripts was this Justin Papineau, which is card #216 in the set and serial numbered 17/25. One thing I always liked about the CHL portion of the set was how they used a foil version of the league logo instead of the facsimile signature.

This Taylor Pyatt is card #213 in the set and serial numbered 07/25. For whatever reason my scanner decided to make this one look a little different than the Papineau. The rainbow foil look spectacular in person and you can kind of get an idea of it with this scan.

Of course now that I said something earlier about hitting the last card of a print run, I would do it again in the same post. This Luke Sellars is card #206 in the set and is serial numbered 25/25. This one also shows the nice rainbow foil, especially on the MVP logo.

Same as my last posts, we'll finish thins up with Michael Zigomanis. This one is card #215 in the set and is serial numbered 09/25. Its nice knocking off as many of these CHL cards as I can. Then I'll be able to focus solely on the main portion of the set.

So that's 11 new cards for my 220 card set. Not a bad chunk to knock off the list if you ask me. I believe this is the most I've ever posted on here at one time.

The Green and Hoglund are the two that were not included in my previous Gold Script update. That's because I already had them. For the deals I was getting I would've been happy if all I got was just the Super. The Golds were just a bonus. That being said, I was definitely willing to take on a few duplicate Golds in order to boost my Super Script set.

SCE Super Script Update

In my last post I showed off the latest additions to my MVP Stanley Cup Edition Gold Script set. This post is all about the slightly more rare counterparts to those six, plus three others. All nine of these came from the same seller over in Sweden. I was actually surprised at how quickly they arrived. I've had single cards from within the US take longer to get to me.

Up first is my favorite of the bunch from one of my PC guys: Patrik Stefan. I was a big fan of him back in 1999-00 when he was a rookie with the Thrashers. Actually, now that I think about it, I even have a TTM signed copy of this card, so I have an "enhanced" rainbow with the base, Silver, Gold, Super and "Ink" script. I'll have to put them all side by side now.

Moving on to the likely the biggest name of this group, this Jarome Iginla is card #33 in the set and serial numbered 18/25. Anyone else like those old Flames jerseys?

Onto the other team from Alberta. This Tommy Salo is card #71 in the set and serial numbered 14/25. This one is another example of the great photography used in this set.

Up next is card #94 featuring Karl Dykhuis of the Canadiens. This one is serial numbered 16/25. This is yet another good example of the photography. Maybe its just me, but I like when the featured player is the only one visible in the shot.

Super Script number five is card #62 in the set and features former Star Mike Keane. This one is serial numbered 07/25. This is a good example of one of the shots where others in the background slightly distract from the featured player.

Back to Edmonton again. This time we have Ethan Moreau featured on card #76 in the set. This one is serial numbered 22/25. I now have three Oilers with Selivanov and Smyth.

So those were the same six as my previous Gold Script update. The next three are the new ones for which I already owned a copy of the Gold. Up first is card #48 in the set featuring Michael Nylander. This one is serial numbered 03/25.

Up next for the Avalanche is Aaron Miller. This one is card #49 in the set and is serial numbered 14/25. For as much as I was into the Red Wings rivalry with the Avs back in the late 90s, I don't really remember much about Miller.

The last one for today is card #42 in the set featuring Tommy Westlund of the Hurricanes. This one is serial numbered 23/25. This will be the fourth Hurricane in my set joining Ron Francis, Sean Hill and Byron Ritchie. Just need a few more for the whole team set.

Well, this is officially the biggest single update I've made to this set. At the rate I've been getting these over the last ten years I would've never thought I'd be getting nine all at once. I guess you just have to be patient and hope to get lucky sometimes.

Overall I am very pleased with my latest eBay pickups. I spent a little bit more than I usually do at one time, but I felt like I couldn't pass on some of these. I would regret it later on if I didn't. After all, these things are still pretty rare and they're getting older every day.

I'll have to go through everything again to see how many complete rainbows I have now. By that I mean the base, Silver, Gold and Super versions of any given card. I had at least 10 of them completed the last time I checked, which was quite a while ago now. I for sure have at least nine more now with my latest eBay purchases.

SCE Super Script Update

Wow, I just realized it's been over two years since I posted an update for my 1999-00 MVP Stanley Cup Edition Super Script project, again. That was about the same gap between my previous update and the one before that. Talk about slow progress. I guess time does fly by, but for whatever reason it doesn't even feel like these have been that infrequent.

I still consider this my favorite set after all these years and do not plan on stopping any time soon. They just don't show up for sale all that often. Sometimes when they do they are out of my price range so that makes them even harder to snag.

Luckily, 2019 has been good to me so far. I've been able to add three more to my set, all thanks to eBay. If I had to guess, I would say at least 75% of these things have come from there. For me, its the place where they show up the most.

Up first is card #78 in the set featuring Viktor Kozlov of the Florida Panthers. This one is serial numbered 19/25. I was able to grab this one for just $3.50 back in April.

Next we have card #47 featuring former Blackhawk Dean McAmmond. This one is serial numbered 05/25. I really like those old black jerseys Chicago used to wear. I was able to get this one for $9.99 just a couple of weeks ago.

Last but not least is another one of the CHL prospects cards. This one is #198 and features Ryan Jardine. It is serial numbered 22/25. Jardine was drafted by the Panthers 89th overall in 1998, but only played eight NHL games. Unfortunately, he never scored a goal and finished with two assists. This one cost me $3.19 back in March.

That's it for now. It feels great to finally post another update for this set. I've know all along this set would take me quite a while and that's fine with me. It gives me something to search for at shows and on the internet. Its still exciting every time I see a new one pop up.

These three bring me to a total of 62 for the set, which is just over 28% complete now. I've definitely got my work cut out for me tracking down the remaining 158 cards.

SCE Super Script Update

Wow, its hard to believe that its been over two years since I last posted a Super Script update. I guess that goes to show you how rare these things are these days. Even though I haven't posted much here in the last couple of years, I've always been on the lookout for these things on eBay. Usually they are listed for more than I want to pay.

This time I found a good deal and put in an early bid when I found the listing. I was the only bidder and won this one for $10 including shipping. It features Andrei Nikolishin of the Washington Capitals. It is card #192 in the set and is serial numbered 04/25.

This one brings my Super Script total to 59 out of 220, which is just about 27% of the entire set. That doesn't seem like a big number, but that's ok as I realize a set like this will take some time to put together. Hopefully I can find some more this year.

SCE Super Script Update

Things have been slow around here lately, but I do finally have something new to show off. I'm still devoting most of my free hobby time to model railroading, so the cards have been few and far between. That said, I am still always on the lookout for certain things like my Super Script set. That is pretty much the only collection project I'm paying attention to at this point, so any time I come across one it's a nice surprise.

My latest purchase was again from eBay and netted me this Super Script featuring Scott Stevens of the New Jersey Devils. This is card #105 in the set and is serial numbered 14/25.

This one will be my 58th for the set and puts me just over 26% complete. It is also the fourth one I've acquired so far in 2015, which isn't as much as recent years, but still a pretty good pace. Hopefully I can find a few more before the year is over.

SCE Super Script Update

Now I've been able to get three of these things within a few weeks, so I'm off to a good start getting back into collecting for now. This is another one I found on eBay and placed a bid early on in the auction. As it was winding down to the end, I was worried about being sniped, but luckily that didn't happen and I was able to land this one for $6 delivered.

This one is card #112 in the set and features Roberto Luongo of the New York Islanders.

This one will bring the Super Script total to 57 out of 220. I almost forgot that Luongo started out on the island until I came across this one. That is definitely not one of teams I associate him with. All that matters though is that I can cross this one off the want list and it brings me closer to completing this massive set.

SCE Super Script Update

Looks like I'm definitely back into the whole card thing for right now. After picking up the Lapointe Super Script I posted recently, I've been a bit more into searching for these things on the internet. One place I hadn't been to in a very long time was COMC, so I decided to do a quick search there a little while back and they happened to have another Super Script listed that wasn't too far out of my price range.

I made an offer that was a little under the asking price and it was accepted fairly quickly. Must be one of those cases where as long as they get close to what they're asking for it doesn't matter since something is better than a card sitting and not making any money.

This one is card #11 in the set and features Dean Sylvester of the Atlanta Thrashers.

This brings me to 56 Super Scripts for my set. It is actually the fourth Thrasher I've got so I'm getting close to being able to complete a team set of these things. I also have four Canucks, so I guess they're tied for the lead now. I would need just three more to complete the Thrashers set at this point. I wonder how long that will take to do.

Super Script Update

It's been a while now since I've done an update on this project with the break from collecting I was on recently. Throughout that break though, I was always checking eBay for deals on cards for this and some other collecting projects. For whatever reason, I decided to start bidding on this one and after some back and forth with other buyers, I ended up winning and was excited to have another awesome piece for my set.

This is another card from the set that I had never seen for sale anywhere before it popped up in my search, and it was the first time in a very long time I've seen a Red Wing from the set listed, so I knew I had to have it. It features former right winger Martin Lapointe and is card #68 in the set. It is serial numbered 10/25 on the front.

This card looks good in the scan and even better in person. I forgot how much I enjoy looking at the cards from this set. There is just something really cool about the rainbow foil and how it changes as you move the card around. The scan itself is much better than my last update as I finally upgraded from my old HP scanner that I had for about eight years.

I now have 55 Super Scripts for my set, so I'm at exactly 25% of the way there. I'd really like to at least complete the Red Wings team set one of these days, but I've only come across three cards in the last six years, two of which I own. The other was a Sergei Fedorov that I happen to lose out on just last week, making this eBay victory that much sweeter.

Super Script Update

This year has definitely not been one of the busiest for me when it comes to collecting, but I have managed to pick up a few nice things here and there. I'm always on the lookout for stuff, but for whatever reason, I'm not buying as much as I would have in past years. Anyway, today I have another card to show for my favorite set. I found it on eBay the other day, made an offer, and got the card in the mail two days later.

This one is card #31 in the set and features former Flames center Cory Stillman. It is serial numbered 03/25 on the front and will be the third Flame in my set.

I got this one for $8 including shipping, so not a bad deal at all. It is the fifth one I've been able to land so far in 2014. That's not bad considering how often these things pop up for sale at the right price. I've actually seen quite a few, but they were more than I was willing to pay. This one also gives me 54 out of 220 for my Super Script set.

Super Script Update

Time for another update on my favorite set. I was beginning to think I wouldn't land too many more of these this year, but that changed last weekend when I came across one with a decent BIN price on eBay. It is my fourth of 2014, so I'm not quite on pace for 11 like last year, but this is still pretty good in my book.

This one is card #135 in the set and features former Red Wings and Flyers center Keith Primeau. It is serial numbered 15/25 and will be the second Flyer in my set.

If anyone is wondering, I was able to land this one for only $10, which is right in line with the average I've paid for these things. It will be the 55th in my set out of a possible 220, which puts me at exactly 25% completion so far.

Super Script Update

Time for another update on one of my favorite sets: 1999-00 Upper Deck MVP Stanley Cup Edition. It's actually be a few months now since I've had anything to show for this set, so its nice to cross another one off the want list. Like I said in my last post for these, no matter the card, I always get excited when I come across one of these rare gems. That tells me I'm doing something right by collecting this set.

On to the card itself. This one comes from the CHL Prospects portion of the set and features former Oshawa Generals left winger Brad Ralph. While spending almost his entire carreer in the minors, Ralph did get into a single game with the Phoenix Coyotes in 2000-01. This card is #207 in the set and is serial numbered 15/25.

This one set me back just under $10 including shipping, which is a bit high if you ask me, but I'll take it to help complete the set. I now have 54 out of a possible 220 or 24.5% of the entire set. I've still got a ways to go, but that's what I like about this set, there will always be something for me to go after.

Super Script Update

If there's one thing I love about being back in the card game, it's that feeling you get when you find one of those elusive cards you been searching for. In this case for my Super Script set there are over 200 of them, but each one is just as satisfying as the one before it.

This one is also from eBay and features former Predators right wing Patric Kjellberg. It is card #103 in the set and is serial numbered 13/25. This will be the third one for Nashville in my set along with Greg Johnson and Drake Berehowsky

This one brings me to 53 for the set. I'm getting closer and closer to being a quarter of the way done with this set. Right now I'm sitting at 24% completion for the Super Scripts. If we look at all three Script parallels together, I'm sitting at 37% completion right now.

Super Script Update

Happy new year everyone! I can't believe another year has come and gone already. Anyway, I'm keeping it simple this time and skipping the whole year end review and goals for next year stuff. That being said, I am just going to kick off the new year with a simple addition to one of my main set projects.

This one also comes from eBay and features Brendan Shanahan of the Detroit Red Wings. It is card #67 in the set and is serial numbered 11/25. The cool part about this one is that it came all the way from Kanagawa, Japan. That's over 6,000 miles away. Pretty weird place for one of these to end up, but I'll take it.

This one brings my Super Script total to 52. Also, I can finally say I have a Red Wing for this set, something I've been wanting to do since I started it. While it set me back a little more than I thought it would, it is still a welcome addition to my collection.

Super Script Update

Man it's been a while since I got myself one of these for my collection. In fact, the last time I did land one was all the way back in April of this year. That was about when I started to get bored with collecting, so one of the last sets I bought things for is the first set I've jumped back into this time around.

This one comes courtesy of eBay and features Byron Ritchie of the Carolina Hurricanes. It's card #41 in the set and is serial numbered 18/25. Here's a look at it:

This brings me to 51 for the Super Scripts. 51 out of 220 may not sound like much, but it's still far more than I ever imagined myself getting to with this set. I guess with a little patience and a lot of time, you can pretty much go after any set out there. As long they're not all 1 of 1's though, right?

Super Script Update

Now this is more like it, two Super Scripts just a couple of days. I could get used to a pace like that. The Moran that I showed in my last post was the 49th in my set, making this the 50th, a pretty nice milestone if you ask me. While I already pass this mark with my Gold Script set, there is just something a bit more satisfying doing it with this set.

This one goes back to the main part of the base set and adds another Dallas Star to the project. It features defenseman Brad Lukowich and is numbered 10/25.

Like I said earlier, this makes 50 of these things now. I've definitely come a long way from the four that I had when I started this blog back in late 2009, man has it really been that long already? As far as 2013 goes, this is the 10th one I've picked up in just under four months, which only leaves me with eight more to catch up to my total from last year.
