Pack Break: 2006-07 Parkhurst x3

These are the last three packs from the value pack and I saved them until last for a good reason. One of these packs made the entire thing more than worth it, well at least to me it did.

Here are a couple of the base cards:

I really like the overall look of this set too, especially the fading on the edges of the cards and around the name block in the middle. Great player selection too, I can't think of many sets with both Ted Lindsay and Bob Probert. The rest of the base cards are as follows:

Brian Mullen
J.P. Kelly
Reijo Ruotsalainen
Reed Larson
Tiger Williams
Marty McSorley
Marc Tardif
Grant Fuhr
Kevin Dineen

Now onto the inserts:

That last card made the entire value pack more than worth it. That has to be one of the nicer looking 'graphs I've pulled in a while, its up there with this Jean Beliveau from another previous value pack.

I'm sure it would also fall under the scribe category over at My Hockey Card Obsession. There is just something about the old-timers having far superior signatures to the players of today.

All in all, I'm glad I decided to spend the $10 on these 15 packs. I got some nice base cards, a few cool inserts, and this awesome auto. Doesn't get much better than that.

  1. Nice Howell signature.

Someone once told me that the reason that the old timers have legible and nice signatures is that most of them (especially the French Canadians) went to Catholic schools and that penmanship was an important part of their schooling.

Now, I don't know whether or not that is Catholic school specific, but I do think that back in the day, penmanship WAS important; I mean, typewriters were a luxury and so people had to rely on the written word to communicate.

  2. I never really thought about that, but it does make sense. Nowadays, everything is done digitally and penmanship seems to become less important all the time.
