My Picks # 40: Chris Osgood

This pick brings back both good and bad memories. The bad would be a year without hockey and the good would be the return of hockey for the fall of 2005, that's where this set of cards come in.

I don't remember exactly how this set came about, but with hockey coming back that fall, Upper Deck put out this set of cards for free, all you had to do was register online and they sent some to you.

I also don't remember how the registration worked, how many cards you got at once or anything like that, but I ended up with about 15 of these cards and they're all pretty sharp, especially this one.

Even though these were given out for free, they do look pretty good. I really like the unique patterns in the four corners and the borders. The player image really pops on these cards with the lack of different colors in the design, so that's definitely a good thing.

Like I said, somehow I accumulated about 15 of them. I don't know how many of these are out there, but I would love to complete the set someday. Aw shoot, I think I may have just added another project to my collection to do list...

  1. Well that is a good pick up, that was also great to start for another set. I must also agree with the design the card has hold it is simple and the color variation is great thats why it looks like the photo of the player pops out. Cool pick up, very cool..

  2. This card style reminds me of UD Artifacts.

  3. It really does kind of look like Artifacts. I think this would have come out before any of the Artifacts sets, maybe they just took from this design...
